Henrry Ibáñez
Biography
Henrry A. Ibáñez, originally from Arequipa, Perú, is a PhD student in Hispanic Studies at Brown University. He took graduate courses at Stony Brook University and holds a B.A. from the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú (PUCP). His current research examines sickness, violence, and religion in the colonial Andes and Early Modern Iberia, with a particular focus on transatlantic relations, local devotional practices and representations of the body in the 16th and 17th centuries. His earlier work centered on 17th century Spanish theater. His undergraduate dissertation consisted of a critical edition of Las cadenas del Demonio by Pedro Calderón de la Barca, later published in the series Biblioteca Áurea Hispánica. He is currently studying other comedias such as Los dos amantes del cielo, Las tres justicias en una and El José de las mujeres. Beyond the Early Modern period, he is also interested in death and embodiment in 20th century Latin American poetry and cinema. He served as president of the Red Literaria Peruana (REDLIT) and is currently a member of the Grupo de Investigación y Edición de Textos Coloniales Hispanoamericanos (GRIETCOH- PUCP).
